- How does making a book work, start to finish?The whole journey in four steps: export your chat, choose your messages, make the book yours, and we print and ship it.
- Do I need a computer?iPhone messages need a Mac or Windows PC. Android and WhatsApp books can be made straight from your phone.
- Will any messages on my phone be deleted or changed?No. Exporting is 100% read only. Your phone, your messages, and your photos are left completely untouched.
- Which apps are supported? What if mine is not listed?iPhone, Android, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, Discord, GroupMe, KakaoTalk, Google Voice, and Google Chat, plus a custom option for everything else.
- Can I type or paste messages in by hand?Yes. The Custom option starts a blank book, and "Add manually" lets you type chat bubbles or paste a whole written page.
- How far back do my messages go? What about deleted ones?Your book can include the full history of a conversation. Messages deleted before you export cannot be recovered.
- The messages are on an old or broken phone. Can I still make a book?Often, yes. If the phone still turns on, or the messages live in a backup, there is usually a way.
iPhone export troubleshooting
Fixes for the most common bumps when exporting iMessages.
- Can I make a manual backup instead of syncing?Yes. A manual, unencrypted backup works and can even capture more than syncing does.
- iTunes does not recognize my phone (Windows)Other Apple apps on Windows conflict with iTunes. Uninstall them, restart, and reconnect.
- Can I upload an iMazing or other third party backup?No. Our own free iMessage Exporter is the only supported way to export iPhone messages.
Choosing your messages
Picking exactly which messages make it into your book.
- How do I select which messages go in my book?Use every message with one click, or hand pick them one by one and in ranges with Shift click.
- How do I include just one year, or a specific time period?Use the "From" and "To" date fields to filter the conversation, then select within that window.
- What do the "Select all" options do?The Select all dropdown selects every visible message, only texts, or only images, and respects any date filter you have set.
- How do I find a specific message?Type in the search box to jump between matches. Search finds messages; clicking them adds them to your selection.
- How do I review my selection and page count before saving?The selected messages panel shows everything you picked, a live page count, and the Save button that creates your book.
Editing your book
Messages, chapters, names, colors, and everything else in the editor.
- How do I add a message?Hover any message, click one of the insert arrows, and choose what to add: a text, an image, or a voice message from either side of the conversation.
- How do I edit a message?Hover the message, click the pencil, make your change, and confirm. Nothing is permanent until you save the book.
- How do I delete messages?Delete one message from its hover toolbar, or click bubbles to select many and delete them all at once.
- How do I move a message somewhere else?Cut the message, then paste it from the insert menu at its new location.
- How do I change the date or time of a message?Hover a photo or voice message, choose "Change date and time", and pick the new moment. The message moves to keep everything in order.
- How do I add or adjust photos?Photos from your export come in automatically. You can add more with image messages, crop any photo, and set how large images print.
- How do voice messages work in a printed book?Voice messages print as QR codes. Scan one with any phone and the recording plays. Hosting is included forever.
- What are narrations, and how do I add one?Narrations are short lines in your own words between messages, perfect for adding context to the story.
- How do I add a full page of my own writing?Custom pages are full pages you write and design yourself, great for a letter, an introduction, or anything pasted from Word or Google Docs.
- How do I force something onto the next page?Insert a page break and everything below it starts on a fresh page.
- How do chapters work?Split your book anywhere with chapter breaks, give chapters names, reorder them, and add whole new chapters from other conversations.
- How do I change the names above messages?Open Contacts in the sidebar and type the name you want. Each chapter keeps its own names.
- How do I control who appears on the right side?The primary sender’s messages appear on the right, like your own texts on your phone. Set it per chapter in Contacts.
- The same person shows up twice. How do I merge them?Imports sometimes split one person into "Mom" and a phone number. Merge combines them into one contact.
- How do I add or remove reactions?Hover a bubble and click the smile button at its corner to add hearts, laughs, and any other emoji, just like in the chat.
- How do I change bubble colors and fonts?The Colors section has app presets and full custom colors. The Font section sets the typeface and size for the whole book.
- How do I show or hide dates, times, names, and page numbers?The Options section controls chapter headers, dates, times, sender names, and image size for the whole book.
- What are opening pages: dedication, table of contents, and stats?Three optional pages at the front of your book: a personal dedication, a table of contents, and a stats page of conversation highlights.
- What does "Load link previews" do?It fetches thumbnails for links in your conversation, so YouTube videos and songs print as little preview cards.
Designing your cover
Templates, your own photos and text, the spine, and print safe areas.
- How does the cover designer work?A drag and drop canvas with templates, elements, layers, and spine controls. Move anything anywhere; what you see is what prints.
- How do I use a cover template?Click any template to apply it, then customize every part of it. You can also reuse a cover from another book.
- How do I add my own text and photos to the cover?The Elements tab adds text, images, and shapes. Select anything to restyle it, and use Layers to control stacking.
- Can I design my cover in Canva?Yes. We include professional Canva templates already sized for your book. Design there, export, and upload the PNGs here.
- How do I put text on the spine?The Spine tab sets the spine text, font, colors, and position. Books need more than 80 pages for spine text.
- What do the guide lines on the cover mean?The guides mark the spine, the safety area for important content, and the bleed or wrap zone at the outer edge.
Your books & previews
Your library, previewing the printed book, and getting it into the cart.
- What can I do from My books?My books is your library: every draft and finished book, your book credits, and every action from renaming to previewing to ordering.
- How do I preview exactly what will print?Generate your book, then open Preview to page through the real print files, cover and interior, before anything is printed.
- How do I order my finished book?Generate the book from the editor or My books, review it in your cart, pick your edition and options, and check out.
- What does "Run cleanup checks" do?It scans your whole book for things worth tidying before print: bare links, duplicates, system messages, emoji issues, and unplayable voice recordings, with one click bulk fixes.
- Can I duplicate, split, or delete a book?All three, from the three dot menu on any book card in My books.
- Is there a tour of the editor?Yes. The Tutorial button in the top corner of the editor walks you through every section, and you can restart it anytime.

What books cost, how credits work, and getting your book to your door.
- What does a book cost?The Classic edition is $59 and the Forever edition is $109. Additional book credits cost less, and every book includes a free PDF backup.
- Do book credits expire?Never. Buy now and make the book when the time feels right.
- Can I upgrade from Classic to the Forever edition later?Yes. Upgrade at checkout and just pay the difference.
- Do voice pages cost extra?No. Voice pages are included free on every edition, no matter how many recordings your book has.
- Will years of messages fit in one book?Books hold up to 800 printed pages, which covers years of texting for most conversations. The editor shows your exact page count before you order.
- What if my conversation is longer than 800 pages?We can split everything into volumes for you automatically, or you can split at any chapter break yourself.
- How long until my book arrives?Delivery estimates are shown at checkout in business days and cover both printing and shipping. We ship to 221 countries.
- I need it by a specific date. Will it make it?Faster shipping options are shown at checkout. For special occasions, order sooner rather than later.
- Where is my free PDF copy?On your Orders page. Every printed book comes with downloadable cover and interior PDFs that stay in your account.
- My tracking has not updated. Is something wrong?Usually not. Tracking often shows "label created" for a day while the carrier picks your book up from the printer.
